I don't know the IP address of my device?

It is good practice to keep up-to-date copies of a Device Summary and Address Book for every ShowRunnerCLC™ installation. Sometimes though, this information has been lost or technicians are asked to support jobs that they did not start up themselves. In cases where you don't know the IP address or hostname of your device, but you need to connect to it over Ethernet, then you have a few options:

  • If you can physically access the device and you have an appropriate USB cable, then:
    1. Connect to the device via USB
    2. Open Text Console
    3. Run the command est or ipconfig
    4. Network configuration information will be displayed in text console, including DHCP status, IP address, and subnet mask
  • If you can't directly access the device, but you know the IP information for the subnet that it is on:
    1. Configure your laptop's IP settings as required for the network
    2. Connect to the subnet
    3. Use a tool such as Advanced IP Scanner to scan all IP addresses on the subnet
      • Note that this may not always work
    4. Once the scan is complete, look through the list of live devices and try to determine which one is the device you are looking for
  • Ask around with people who may have the information required (Note that Chief Integrations does not keep IP address information for jobsites we don't start up as standard practice, so we are very unlikely to have this information unless we were on-site starting up the job)
